•More teenagers die by their own hand than from cancer, heart disease and AIDS combined.
•Girls attempt suicide at a rate doubles that of boys.
•But four times as many teenager boys as girls die by suicide.
•Boys tend to use more dangerous methods, like hanging, jumping from heights, or guns.
Psychological or substance-related disorder make it harder to contract with stressful situations adolescents may face, like failing in school, breaking up with a boyfriend or girlfriend, the death of a loved one or seeing parents divorce.
These are some characteristics of the suicide attempt teenagers:
•Perform poorly in school.
•Have access to guns.
•Experience violence at home.
•Previously attempted suicide.
•Have a family history of depression or suicide.
•Suffered physical or sexual abuse.
The parents are doing these things to prevent the teenagers suicide like as:
•Are struggling to cope with issues of sexual orientation
•Get help from a mental health professional.
•Express your love and support.
•Make hotline numbers available to your teen.
•Have a friend who committed suicide.
•Keep the lines of communication open.
•Ask them: You have been talking about death a lot lately. Are you having thoughts about suicide?
