Independence Center was established in 1985 as a non- Profit Corporation provides a non- sectarian program for troubled young adults by a group of parents brought together by Ms. Sandy D. Gordon.
They found that their children continued to fall within the gap of services and they tried to fill that gap. Independence Center is mainstreamed transitional residential program for the person age of 18 to 30 both men and women with learning disabilities.
The programs offers the center are independent living, social and vocational skills, counseling and many more. They try to give a hand to the patient in transition to independent living and to help them to make the way of the life a bit smoother, a way with the sweetest destination of victory in independent living.
The center provides daily living skills instruction in individual and group settings. They give an opportunity to their participant to live with roommates and learn to plan menus, shop and cook, laundry, budget and manage money.
It works on the premise that each person is unique, they all have their own personality, strengths and limitations so they try to give the training according to their needs. So according to their need they try to give training to each one of them. Each young person’s neurological dysfunction, need, style, personality and coping mechanisms are essential ingredients for program planning. Staff tries to help the patients to make them to live among others.

Also the students here are given the special training according to their need. They are also given the training of living attitudes with their roommates, learn to plan menus, shopping, cooking, budgeting and how to manage money. These all will help the young adults to find their better way of independent living. It will also help them to find an appropriate destination for their lives and make their life smoother.
