Penikese Island School is a therapeutic boarding school that was established in 1973 for struggling boys in the age group of 15 to 18 years. It has good experiencing in serving struggling teens and families in crisis. It is located on the tiny Penikese Island that is 12 miles SW of Woods Hole, Massachusetts. It has a mission to make the struggling boys more productive and positive toward family and community. It strives to give long term changes in teens in all aspects of life.
Penikese offer short term and long term programs for struggling teens that show remarkable and long lasting changes in them. The location provides a nurturing and challenging atmosphere for the struggling teens to restore well. Some of the programs offered by them include clinical program, educational program, aftercare, Penikese program structure, family involvement etc. Students attend the academic classes and there are visits of experts in the campus. The vocational program they recommend for teens is of great importance as t helps them to learn job skills training and teamwork. Penikese also provides its students with a wide variety of recreational activities. Penikese believe that healing begins from home only. If the struggling teen is not supported by the family, even the institution cannot help him. So, it gives family counseling and therapy to the parents of troubled teens and also guides them about the after care that their child requires after he returns home from the program. The Penikese Island is a famous tourist spot as people come here for different reasons such as school, agency, families, personal interest, natural history, wildlife sanctuaries etc.
