Stone Mountain School is a boarding school for boy’s ages of 11 to 17. It is a long-term residential school in outdoors surroundings that is geared to help families of boys with emotional issues or behavioral problems. It is specializes in pre- adolescent and teen boys with learning differences or disabilities, attention deficit disorder(ADD) or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder(ADHD).
The main aim of the school is to return the child to his home or society at a level of performance that will direct to successful individual and academic activities, and provide a foundation for transition into maturity.
The school has set following goals for boys attending the school :
- To be more responsible, to control my anger, and to improve my social skills
- To be honest, respectful and helpful to others.
- To become a positive part of my family.
The boarding school provides boys a secure, planned atmosphere in which they can flourish and succeed both academically and socially. The school provides a base for increasing self- esteem and responsible behavior. The students here are made to requirements in personal hygiene, social behaviors, academic performance and independent living skills. This will help the students to perform better in school and have a more positive outlook on life.
The students here live with other boys in rustic cabins, supervised 24 hours a day by two residential counseling staff. The wide ranges of activities are provided by the school like cooking, cleaning, daily chores and wood chopping. The rustic atmosphere offers many lessons to the boys such as the values of teamwork, self- esteem and natural consequences of behavior.
The boys also take part in different activities such as swimming, canoeing, backpacking, rock climbing, primitive skills development, gardening and basic carpentry.
The staff ratio here is of 1 to 5 so that the individual attention can be given to the each students they deserve. There are weekly treatment team meetings, individual and group counseling ensure that each student’s treatment is individually tailored to his specific needs.
