Home atmosphere plays very crucial role in life of children. He might have been started to consume drugs and alcohol because of your unwanted careless. You just have to give him your more time. May be your company brings very fair changes in his personality and general habits.

As per my knowledge, your child is just distracting from his correct path. He just need proper and correct guidance. Punishment and warnings are not the solution of problems. You have to make him realize about the positive attitude in life. Rest you can enroll your child in day programs of rehabs schools.

As you have said that he is not listening to you, it means he dislikes you just because you are not spending time with him and giving more preference to your work. You must talk to him very politely and calmly and behave like a friend with him. Or you can also take the help from the expert psychotherapists and advisers.

It is good to find the answer from his side because it helps us to know the problem from his words. If it is not possible take to him to any of the professional counselors, so that they would help him with their professional approach. They have lots of experience in helping teens struggling with these kinds of problems.

In my opinion it is better to make him understand about his new activities. Take to one of his favorite teachers and provide a full pledged counseling class with them. These counseling classes will surely help him to come out of the problem in a healthy way.
