Hi, I am Jane. It’s been one month since I am closely supervising my child’s activities and behavior. I can notice that he seems to be lost most of the time. Because he cannot concentrate in his studies, his performance is also deteriorating in school. Please tell me from where should I get help for him?

I would suggest you to help your child by giving him the best possible help from your side. You can find help from boot camps, wilderness programs, boarding schools etc. Fetch out good schools and treatment centers nearby your town and get your child enrolled in it.

Jane this is a common behavioral problem in teens. The most common treatment of this is therapy. But before getting therapy for your child, meet a counselor. They will help your child to concentrate. And if not any of these, just take help for your child from a boarding school.

I would think this is the most important period of teen’s life. It is great that you identified the problem in the earlier stage itself that shows your love and responsibility. So don’t take any back step and give him a counseling class with his principal or his favorite teacher. Then ultimately he could change his behavior.

As you said your child is behaving in a different way these days. You should take care of him in the initial stage otherwise it would be worse in upcoming days. So try to get information from the school with his teachers and friends about his strange behavior. May be a bad incident making his mind to behave like that. We don’t know, so work on these and think a good solution.

I think you should first talk to your son about this. It is possible that he is facing some problems in schools. Teens who are a victim of school bullying or sexual abuse often show such behavior. Try to find out what is his problem. Talk to his school teachers and class mates. You can also seek advice from a good therapist.

These types of behaviors in teens are due to their lack of interest in studies. This may be due to various reasons such as stress, depression or grief. You should try to find out the reason. You can also admit your teen to a good boarding school. There are also many wilderness programs and summer camps that are very useful for such type of teens.
