Hi! I am Kate. My 15 years old daughter is very charming. But she hardly eats anything. Though she is very slim and trim but still she thinks that she is overweight. She most of the time on dieting and do exercise. I and her friends have tried explaining this to her that she is perfect according to her height. Is it any kind of eating disorder? What should I do for her?

Your daughter is showing almost all the symptoms of Anorexia, which is a common eating disorder, usually in girls. Tell her about the healthy eating habits and give her proper diet. Before, this becomes problematic for your daughter and your family; I would advice you to consult a doctor as soon as possible.

This eating disorder is known as Anorexia. The first goal in treating severe anorexia is to put some weight back on. Then, the goals will focus on learning about nutrition and normal eating habits, interacting with family, and treating medical and other psychological problems.

These are the signs of Anorexia Nervosa which is a type of eating disorder. Teens suffering from this feel that they are obese even if they are very slim. It is a very dangerous problem as it can cause low blood pressure, muscle weakness etc. You need to take immediate help from a good psychiatrist. There are many residential treatment centers that help these types of teens.

I don’t think it is a problem or an eating disorder. She is very much cared to have a perfect look and for that she is following a systematic way of food. As you said she is looking charming, then why do get so tensed about her diet. It is good to do all exercises to keep her body in a perfect shape. I think she has all the information for a perfect diet and she is going in that way.

Dear Kate! Unfortunately you are right. Your daughter is suffering from a serious type of eating disorder. This problem is very hazardous for your daughter’s health. You need to tell her about the negative consequences of it. Make her read the various articles about eating disorder available on internet. If she doesn’t understand, then sending her to a good boarding school or treatment center is the only option.

Many of the people suffer with over weight. And work day and night to reduce their weight. But your child started from this age itself. I think you must be proud of her because she is very cautious about her diet. I don’t find any problem from your child.
