I am an 18 year old college student. I belong to a very rich family and I am the only child of my parents. They don’t have time for me. I don’t even remember when I talked to my parents last time. I feel very lonely and depressed. I am good in academics but now I am losing interest in everything. What should I do?

I can understand your feeling very well. Teens who don’t get love and attention from parents often suffers from this problem. But yours problem doesn’t seem very serious to me. You should talk to your parents whenever you get chance. Try to make them understand that you need their love and affection. If they don’t understand you, don’t feel depressed. Engage yourself in some outdoor and creative activities.

Make new friends and take part in sports and other such activities. You can also join summer camps to enhance your skills. This will remove your grief.

It’s clear from your problem that you are suffering with teen depression. I would like to tell you that depression is very damaging and if left untreated it will ruin both the victim and his/her family. Talk to your parents regarding this. Make them feel that you need them and their ignorance is hitting you badly. Also, tell them that it is affecting your studies as well. I hope, they’ll realize after this.

Teen depression is common in teens these days. In your case, it is because of your family. Whenever you get opportunity, talk to your parents about this. Tell them about your feelings and emotions. My advice is not to leave depression untreated, and take professional help immediately.
