I am a father of 16 year old son. He is very ill mannered and don’t listen to anyone. I have decided to send him to a boot camp. But I have heard that boot camps has many disadvantages. Is it right to send my son to a boot camp? Are there any other alternatives?

Boot camps are very helpful in treating such struggling teens. There are some myths about boot camps but I don’t think that they are right. It is true that boot camps are very strict in discipline and teens get severe punishment for not following rules, but eventually this helps teens in their life. If still you don’t want to send your child to boot camps then there are other alternatives such as summer camps and wilderness programs.

Boot camps and military boarding schools are very successful in treating troubled teens. Some people say that the effects of boot camps are not long lasting. It may be true in some cases, but most of the teens do well even after leaving camps. Wilderness programs are best alternative of boot camps if you are not feeling comfortable in sending your teen to boot camps.

Boot camp is the good place to send your son. They follow military style rule and their rules are very strict. Your son will teach their discipline. They provide challenging environment to students. They motivate and encourage students. Don’t worry; you have several options such as therapeutic schools, boarding school, wilderness program etc.

This is the common problem of teens. In this age they often do this. Parents’ remains always worried about them. You have same problem. Boot camp is the good option that can solve your child’s problem. The Fee at boot camps is not so high. They provide long and short term courses for troubled teens.

To tell you frankly, boot camps are not the right help option for your child. They work on the methodology that “If you scream enough at children they will get in discipline.” Boot camps do not focus on basic emotional and personal needs of such students. Screaming a lot on them can make them more rebellious. The improvements in students after going to a boot camp are short lived.

Boot camps are not the only option left for your child. Rather, I would suggest you not to send your child to the boot camp. There are other options as well, such as military school, boarding school, residential treatment centers etc. The results of boot camps are short lived and do not have long lasting effects on teens.
