Canberra is the capital city of Australia and the largest inland city. Canberra is also called Australian Capital Territory (ACT). It is located at 300 kilometers southwest of Sydney and 650 kilometers north-east of Melbourne. The area of Canberra is around 805.6 square kilometer and population is over 325,000. Canberra was selected for the location of the national capital in 1908 and became the national capital in 1911. Canberra is located near the Brindabella Ranges. The Molonglo River flows through Canberra and has a dam in the city called Lake Burley Griffin. Canberra is a well-planned lakeside city of parklands, impressive restaurants, beautiful bush land and leafy suburbs. Canberra is a planned city that was originally designed by Walter Burley Griffin, an American architect. The areas of Canberra are organized into a districts, town centers, industrial areas and villages. There are seven districts, each is divided into smaller suburbs, and most of which have a town centre which is the focus of commercial and social activities.

It is situated at 35°18-0 south on latitude and 149°08-0 east on longitude.

Because of distance from the coast, Canberra has four distinct seasons. The minimum and maximum temperature of Canberra is between -1 to 28 degree Celsius. The maximum rainfall is in spring and summer seasons. Light snow falls in the city in one out of approximately three winters.

The economy of Canberra is depending upon property and business services, construction, health and community services, education and tourism.

Australian National University and University of Canberra are situated here. They both are among the best universities in the world. Campus of Australian Catholic University and Charles Sturt University are also situated here. There are several public schools situated here. Beside these, Australian Defense Force Academy (ADFA) and the Royal Military College, Duntroon are also situated here.

As a national capital of Australia, Canberra is the site of Parliament House, the High Court of Australia and numerous government departments and agencies. Canberra is home to many national monuments and institutions such as the Australian War Memorial, the National Gallery of Australia, the National Library of Australia, the National Archives of Australia, and the National Museum of Australia.

There has a Sports Centre with facilities to play soccer, cricket, netball, field hockey, Australian Rules football, rugby and a shooting range. Football, Cricket, Marathon and Basketball are the most popular sports of the city Canberra. There are many sports clubs, parks and fields in the city.

Canberra has transport links with the rest of Australia mainly by road and air and a limited services by rail.
