It is a beautiful place situated on the Nepean Highway in the south of the Melbourne. The name of Highett originates from Highett Road, the name of the railway station which was built when the line from Caulfield to Mordialloc was opened in 1881.
The growth of Highett is started in 1950. After that primary schools and high schools are opened there. The strip shopping centre near the railway line expanded, and still remains active.
Highett has major road and rail links to the other cities and the resorts and fishing towns and wineries of the Mornington Peninsula.
The nearest visiting place of Highett is Port Phillip Bay beaches, 2 km apart from there. Sandringham Municipal, Victoria and Royal Melbourne golf courses are also very near to Highett.
The beaches of Highett have excellent swimming beaches and reserves. There are five sailing and eight life-saving clubs, a large aquatic centre, the Patterson River marina and a chain of major parks, gardens and wetlands. The vast Southland Shopping Centre and Moorabbin Airport lie just to the south-west of Highett.
