Oak Flats is situated in state New South Wales. It is a suburb of Shellharbour, Australia situated on the South Western shores of Lake Illawarra. It is a residential area. It was originally subdivided in the 1920s under a town plan drawn up in the style of Canberra architect Walter Burley Griffin.
It is about 25 kilometer far from Wollongong. The population of Oak Flats is 6,674. It is situated at 34°33-0 south on latitude and 150°49-0 east on longitude.
Oak Flats is a base for fishing, boating or surfing holiday on New South Wales magical South Coast. Bass Point, which stands at the southern end of a sweeping beach which separates it from Shellharbour, boasts a nature reserve and a memorial to the victims of a 1943 shipwreck.
The Oak Flats has a good transport facility available. There has a railway station which was moved recently there. It is well connected to other parts of the country via rail and road.
