Parents Help in Newcastle upon Tyne

New castle upon Tyne is a city and metropolitan borough of Tyne and Wear, historic coutry of Northumberland in northeastern England. It is situated on the north bank of River Tyne. It had population about 259,573 in 2001.

Newcastle upon Tyne is named after the Norman fortress built in 1080 and extended by Henry II between 1172 and 1177. In the Middle Ages, the town grew to be an important centre for trade.

At first an important wool trade centre, it became a major mining area and coal-shipping port in the 16th century. It was among the world largest ship-repairing facilities; its economy now rests on associated marine and heavy engineering industries.

Many of our large towns and cities are products of the industrial revolution of the late eighteenth and nineteenth centuries; but Newcastle upon Tyne has a long and proud history, documented since Roman times.

In the nineteenth century, shipbuilding and heavy engineering were central to the city prosperity; and the city was a powerhouse of the Industrial Revolution. Innovation in Newcastle and surrounding areas included the development of Safety lamps, Stephenson Rocket, Lord Armstrong artillery, Joseph Swan electric light bulbs, and Charles Parsons invention of the steam turbine, which led to the revolution of marine propulsion and the production of cheap electricity.

The city has teo universities, Newcastle University and the newer Northunbria University that was established in 1992.
