Parents Help in Ripon

Ripon is a cathedral city in North Yorkshire in England. It lies in the upper valley of the River Ure. City had a population of 15,000 according to the 2001 census. It is the fourth smallest city in England.

The Minster was founded on the ruins of St Wilfrid abbey about 680, but of this Saxon building nothing now remains except the crypt, called St Wilfrid Needle.

There are several old charities, including the hospital of St John the Baptist, founded in 1109 but modernized; the hospital of St Anne, founded probably in the reign of Henry VI by an unknown benefactor; and the hospital of St Mary Magdalene for women.

Residents of Ripon and the Dales are being offering a range of courses in an adult environment delivered locally, thanks to Leeds Met which has launched the Ripon Lifelong Learning Centre for adults in the City of Ripon

City has some educational institutions, Ripon Grammar School, Ripon College, College of Ripon and York St John and Ripon Cathedral Choir School .

Ripon is being hailed as a model for economic regeneration and education features strongly in the future development of the City.
